Witnesses reported that the shelling blasted on residential areas, causing both deaths and casualties.
The attack induced a widespread fear for those who recently repatriated from the outskirts of Mogadishu soon after they heard Shabaab had desolated Karan neighborhood.
“More than three mortars hit the area, leaving two occupied-houses decimated with several fatalities on families” told one resident to a HOL reporter.
Another witness said that the affected people were mostly women and children.
The Karan district, north of Huriwaa district which has pockets of Shabaab loyalists, is currently under the control of the Transitional National Government (TFG) forces.
But no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, as the TFG remained silent to comment on the attack.
Artillery and mortar strikes remain the deadliest cause of civilian casualties in Mogadishu.
