In a television interview with Al-Jazeera, the son of Mummar Gaddaffi, Saadi Al Gaddafi, said that if his father steps down Libya will become a new Somalia. According to him, after Gaddaffi’s resignation, Libyan tribes will wage war against each other, and Libya will cease to exist as a unified state.
Earlier, a representative of the ruling power Azusa Jadallah al-Talhah urged insurgents to "give national dialogue a chance" and not allow foreign troops to invade Libya.
Some observers regarded such a pronouncement as a sign of willingness, by Gaddafi, to compromise with the protestors.
Large scale protests have been taking place in the country since February 15th 2011.
In clashes between Gaddaffi loyalists, who are being backed by foreign mercenaries, up to 6,000 protesters have been killed.
