Sadly, Canadians are not responding to appeals on behalf of the worst famine in our time.
In Somalia alone 3.9 million people are at risk of starvation and as many as 12 million throughout the region. Some 29,000 Somali children are believed to have died in the last 90 days alone.
Often a woman is forced to leave her sickest children behind and the hope of reaching help and saving her other children.
The casualties will grow without an urgent and generous international response to help innocent people caught up in a combination of drought and war.
I hope Edmontonians will make donations, matched by the Canadian government, to an agency working in Somalia.
