Azerbaijan, UN sign agreement on Somalia aid

Azerbaijan has donated $100,000 to Common Humanitarian Fund for Somalia.

On 11 August 2011, H.E. Mr. Agshin Mehdiyev, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, and Mr. Bisrat Akillu, Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTF Office), acting on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Nations Development Programme respectively, signed in the United Nations Headquarters in New York the Standard Administrative Arrangement (SAA) for Common Humanitarian Fund in Somalia (CHF-Somalia), Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations reported.

By signing the SAA, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan has responded to urgent appeals of the Government of the Somali Republic, the United Nations and other international organizations for international aid to support the ongoing international and national efforts towards the eradication of famine in Somalia and alleviation of the suffering of the Somali people.

According to the SAA, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan has pledged 100,000 US dollars for the aforementioned purposes, and the said amount has been transferred through the MPTF Office to the CHF-Somalia immediately after the signing of the SAA.
