Mogadishu - Somali Police seized explosives, fuses and detonators during house raids carried out in western parts of Mogadishu on Thursday. Police confirmed that there were weapons designed for terrorist attacks.
The confiscated explosives were then displayed to the press at Galbeed police station in Mogadishu. The explosives included electronic detonators, chemicals, bombs and suicide belts.
The police acted on a tip from local residents and carried out the house-search immediately. No one was at the house at the time of raid.
Since Al-Shabaab lost their offensive during Ramadan it appears that they are changing their tactics by carrying out suicide attacks and roadside bombs, while they re-organize themselves.
Our police will continue with these raids to save the lives of innocent civilians whenever we have the information available. We ask the public to cooperate with the security forces in maintaining peace and stability. We ask them to inform whenever they see something suspicious. We ask the public to help us protect you.”
