Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Armed militia have attacked Ethiopian troops positions in Mogadishu near the Somali National University and Digfer hospital. Sources say that Ethiopian troops responded to the attack with indiscriminate shelling of several areas in Mogadishu. It is reported that the shelling has caused unspecified fatalities and injuries.

Fadumo Aali Ibrahim who lives in Daynile district said that a shell that landed in their area injured four civilians. Also, people we have contacted in Zone K of the Hodan district informed us that a young a girl died after a shell hit the house she was living in.

Other areas of the city that were shelled by Ethiopian troops include the Bakara market in Hodan district, but so far we have not received any reports of injuries or deaths.

It is not the first time Ethiopian troops respond with attacks from armed militia with indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas causing deaths and injuries.

It is noteworthy that this latest fighting has taken place at a time when reconciliation talks are expected to begin in Djibouti between the TFG and the Movement for the Re-liberation of Somalia.
