ICU Spokesman: We Will Continue Attacks on Ethiopian and Somali Military Bases

Mogadhishu, Somalia (HOL) - Spokesman for the Islamic Courts Union of Somalia (ICU) Sheikh Abdirahman Isse Addow said the ICU will continue attacks on Ethiopian and Somali military bases. The spokesman added that from June 11 to 13 the ICU forces carried out successful attacks on Ethiopian and Somali military bases in and around Mogadishu .

“The ICU forces attacked Ethiopian and Somali military bases near Warshada Baastada (the Spaghetti Factory) as well as Somalia troops military check points near Shiikh Cali Cabdulle, Galgalato and Ceel Cadde where the Mujadiin killed three troops and captured five others who later were released after they were counseled”, said the ICU spokesman.

The spokesman added that the reason they continue their attacks is that Ethiopian troops have occupied homes belonging to Somali citizens and have turned schools, universities and hospitals into their military bases. “As long as Ethiopian troops are occupying these places we will continue to attack them and we ask Somalis to choose between the occupation of their homes by Ethiopian troops and martyrdom”, added the spokesman.

The spokesman said that their struggle is for self-defence that they are not the ones who have attacked Ethiopia. “Whoever occupies your home by force should be driven out by force”, added the spokesman.
Recent attacks on Ethiopian and Somali troops come a week after the Somali Transitional Federal Government and the opposition Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia signed a peace deal in Djibouti.
