Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - The situation in the city of Beledweyne is very tense today after Ethiopian troops who were stationed at Jante-kundisho military camp shelled the city and then entered into the centre of the city.

After entering the city, Ethiopian troops shelled the western part of the city. It reported that the shells caused fatalities and injuries as well as damages to properties. So far 7 civilians have been confirmed dead near the area of Liiq-liiqato Bridge.

HOL correspondent in the region Abdirahman Dini told us that Ethiopian troops are shelling the city heavily with various kinds of rockets and mortars from a hill at Janta-kundisho.

Some residents of the city have started fleeing their houses fearing the shelling at the western part of the city will kill or injure them.

Some of the latest reports say that a fighting between Ethiopian troops and armed groups opposed to them took place in the western part of the city.

This latest Ethiopian incursion of city follows yesterday’s distribution of leaflets warning the region’s traditional elders to cease talks with Ethiopian commanders at Jante-kundisho military base near the city.

HOL is following the situation closely and will report any developments as soon as possible.
