Bosaso, Somalia (HOL) - More than 150 make shift homes in Mingis Camp in the city of Bossasso were destroyed by a fire today. The occupants of the homes destroyed by the fire are internally displaced people (IDP) who came from Southern Somalia.

It is not clear yet what caused the fire. It is expected that this fire would be the most damaging of all the fires that have occurred in some of the camps in and around the city of Bosaso. The city’s fire fighters eventually reached the camp to assist the people affected by the fire.

Some of the people affected by the fire with whom I spoke requested from the government of the region and the business community to send to them immediate aid.

A similar fire that occurred not long ago in another camp resulted in the death of a 5 year old boy.

Residents of the camp destroyed by last night’s blase are seeking shelter and food wherever they can get and so far no aid has reached them.
