Bosaso (Somali Press Review, April 8) — A soldier who had been found guilty of murdering a fellow soldier was executed by firing squad in Bosaso today.
Few months ago the Bari region Supreme Court sentenced Saeed Elmi to death by firing squad for the murder of Abdiwali Olad who was a Puntland soldier.
The commander of Puntland Police Force, Colonel Saeed Ga’amey, said “execution procedures were put in place to enforce the court ruling.” Many people in Bosaso have gathered to witness the execution of the former Puntland soldier.
Execution of murderers is seen by many people as a major deterrent that can boost security in a region where assassinations have become common occurrences.
