Somali Minister of Public Works & Reconstruction Participate the 23rd UN Habitat Governing Council Meeting

Nairobi, Kenya (HOL) - Somali Minister of Public Works and Reconstruction, Abdirashid K. Hashi is in Nairobi to participate the 23rd Governing Council of UN Habitat. The Minister is accompanied by the Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Ali Nur, who is also accredited to UN Habitat and the Director General of the Ministry of Public Works and Reconstruction Eng. Abdulkadir Farah Gelle.

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki, opened on Monday the 23rd Governing Council under the theme Sustainable Urban Development through Expanding Equitable Access to Land, Housing, Basic Services and Infrastructure and ministerial level delegates from all continents are taking part the five day long deliberations.

On the side lines of the conference Minister Hashi met UN Undersecretary General and the Director General of UN Habitat Dr. Joan Clos whom he briefed the situation of Somalia and the effort of the new government to rebuild the country.

Dr. Clos informed the minister that he will allocate more resource and experts to the UN Habitat Somalia unit and that he will do everything possible to help Somalia recover from the current predicament and he also accepted an invitation to visit Mogadishu.

The Minister also held fruitful bilateral meetings with the Minister of Housing and Urbanization of Morocco Mr. Ahmed Taoufiq Hejira, the Minister of Public  Housing of Indonesia Suharso Monoarfa and the Japanese ambassador to Kenya who all pledged solidarity and tangible technical support for Somalia.
