Well two things:

Djibouti is dying for “ciil” because it cannot help? That is one fallacy you believe. I don’t know how much and how hard Djibouti tried to mediate the warring Somali functions, but that is not their fault even if they did not try. What their fault is the fact that their own back yard is where the Americans are using to attack the poor Somali nomads in Southern Somalia. I think I can easily say that they are active participant of the Xasuuqa in Kenya-Somali border.
As for our own affairs, it is true maybe we are in our lowest state of affairs since Somalia became a state, and I put most of the blame on us- the Somalis.  You may think all the hoopla you witness is for Somali nation, but seriously, I have known Somalis for a while, all this cheers is nothing but convenience and the situation called for it. So, you telling me there is nothing Qabiillism in Somali affairs is nothing but wishful thinking. Maybe, we should change how we do our affairs and go back Qabiil X dealing with Qabiil Y, and maybe in that kind of discussion we can achieve that elusive Somali state.

Until then, I will come to this forum to be saddened by our stupidity, to feel sorry for our poor and displaced masses, to be amused by our ignorance and to learn from the few of us who give us some history lessons and good perspective.

Cheers

 Somaalidoon,
Since your name implies a geuine quest for Somali nationalism.
Let me give you a clue of what I think is happening to our national ambition(you and Me),First, the south is recently invaded by Ethiopia,Puntland and Somaliland were being controlled by Ethiopia since at least 1995.Ogaden was controlled by Ethiopians since 1948.
The Somalis in Kenya cannot even convince the Kenyan government to open the borders,so the fleeing nomads can find safe haven from the air raids.Djabouti is dying from "ciil"because its powerless to help.
Therefore,we are experiencing the old colonial formula of divide and rule.
The irony of our history is always there was Somalis who were cheering for the occupying powers,Italian,British,French,Ethiopians, and Kenyans. It is equally true, there Was brave Somali men & women who gave their lives for the very existence of our land, people, religion, and way of life.
I think the issue is beyond tribe at this stage of the game but a national trafedy.

    somaalidoon @ 1/12/2007 2:52 PM EST
Here is the question to all Waryaa

At this stage in our history, would you rather see a government led by your kinship or a government that is functioning that can bring stability and rule of law?  If you cannot accept any government that your man does not call the shots, I have no cure for you, but if you want a Somali government at this stage no matter who the Dhibane (I think any president of Somalia is) is, we can have a dialogue. I think this guy is sheepishly trying to inject tribal anecdote to the debate. How long would it take us to pass that stage and think globally or at least as a people rather than this repetitive clan thing?

 Abdik,
Are You suggesting We should not give up hope, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
I hope you are wright for the sake of our children even if it is too late for us.
    abdik @ 1/12/2007 1:22 PM EST
Adam Jama how dare you say those things. Somalia's national started when the kacaan came to us. If it was not for Mohamed Siyad Bare Somalia could have become a second or first world country.

If you want to talk about great Somali leaders why don't you mention about the civilian ones of the great Adan Adde and Abdirashid Ali Sharmake. They were the best. Yes they were.
    adamjama @ 1/12/2007 1:05 PM EST
I think Siad Barre is laughing in his grave in between judgement sessions for his crimes.
He is saying look what they are doing when I left them; Actually, I was not a president of a nation,I was only a manager of an animal Zoo.
It took Somalis nine months to get to Hawash in the 77 war and it only took Ethiopia 7 days to complete the invasion of the entire country...excluding what it already had "Somaliland & Puntland".

I have noticed that not many of the regulars are posting. Why, because Queen Caaweelo, the undisputed Queen of Cyber War, is taking a nap? Like a bee colony, when the queen flaps its wings all the workers get busy

The worst ailing  program that a pro-warlords gov ever came
up with in East africa.
    adamjama @ 1/12/2007 12:11 PM EST

While the father of all war lords Abdullahi yusuf is meeting with his junior counterpart war lords Sudi,Qaybdiid,Qanyare,Finish and others about disarmament there is gun fight at the gates of Villa Somalia between their millitia. On top of that two other war lords are busy with unrelated activities.Aydiid is praising the US air strikes that killed seventy innocent Somali Nomads while Barre Hiiraale refused to leave Kismayo for personal gains.
Furthermore; While they are playing cat & Mouse with each other,Ethiopia is playing a bigger trick on all of them. It is now controlling the entire Somali nation without losing a lot of life and resources because it used the old trick of "divide & rule". It has unlimmited access to Bosaso,Berbera,Kismayo, and now Mogadisho without any inspection and taxes. Its grand objective is to keep this war lords busy while she is exploiting our resources.
In my opinion, there will be a general uprising after the dust settles in mogadisho that will have a domino effect into the entire nation because very soon they will hit rock-bottom.

Mukhtarjama..Are you suggesting another confrence about Somalia. Lets deal with this TFG, so that we can improve the second and hope the third government, governs better.
    mukhtarmjama @ 1/12/2007 5:34 AM EST
It think it is important to organise a genuine national reconciliation conference where Somali intellectuals, members of the Union of Islamic Courtsgenuine clan leaders, civil society organisations, other religious leaders are represented. This transitional government is the government for the warlords, by the warlords and can never solve anything, because their only experience is committing atrocities against Somali people. Moreover, all the current leaders of this ineffective 'government' are war criminals who have committed war crimes and  crimes against humanity and they ought to be held accountable for their horrendous crimes. If that does not happen Somalia will once again experience more myhem and bloodshed. It is the responsibility of the international community to pressure Ethiopia to withdraw its troops and bring all the warlords and war criminals including Ghedi and Yusuf , Aidid and their accompices to justice. Somalis deserve better future without warlords.
    Yousef2 @ 1/12/2007 5:23 AM EST
 Mr. Yahia,

What you forgot to mention is that abnormal times require abnormal measures.
    Mukhtarmjama @ 1/12/2007 4:32 AM EST
Mr. Yahya thank you for you well-written article as always. It is indeed insane to ask a militia from one region and the military of our arch enemy Ethiopia to disarm the people of Mogadishu. However, there are a lot of narrow-minded tribalists who dream of can hegemony. What they fail to understand is that we have already travelled that path and it brought war and destruction. Unfortunately, warlords including Abdulahi Yusuf and Ghedi know only the use of force, and its only that measure they can/will be removed. Such warlords who have been thriving on the suffering of the Somali people can never be a solution to the Somali problem. And Ethiopians will stay unless forcefully evicted. Those who are advocating clan domination will wake up when clan  violance spreads and engulfs their home village and city. At the moment they may think that is far away, but it will turn to be a very costly miscalculation. Thank you agian Rashid Yahye for your healthy thoughts.

qaaz you belong to the mental ward
    shukuman cade @ 1/12/2007 12:34 AM EST
Sure, mistakes will be made and most of all the current leadership is not exempt.  But the supporters of now defunct UIC need to unmask their real intentions and bring to light the validity of their debate.  Make no mistake the forces who are chanting Ethiopia is the enemy, have been for a mighty long time a preferred customer of the said country, and now that wheels of fortune has turned against you, you cry fault.  It’s beyond my comprehension of why you are so reluctant to realize the opportunity in front of you. Now more than ever we have to pull our resources together, in order to get it right this time, I guarantee there will be no 15th conference for Somalia. We’ve had enough of justifications and excuses; it has been 16 years that we have been labeled as a Failed State.  You lead, you follow or you get out the way—No more excuses Somalia. I don’t want hear Abdullahi is this and Geedi is that any more! Our mothers want to go back, make it happen.
    cadeeycadow @ 1/12/2007 12:06 AM EST
Good job brother Rashid. By the will of Allah somalis will stand up and we will never accept Ethobian boys to rule our counrty and lead our people.
