thank you responding with such dignity to my barrage of questions. I did not mean to offend you so please accept my apologies if i did. Als, the core isue stands: You cannot judge the man or his book till you read it. Allowing your views to be formed on rumour and hearsay is neither fair nor wise.

Mohamud: The Quran is indeed scared. What percentage, roughly of all the Sharia laws and prcatises are actuially in the Quran? If you look at the cold facts you will realise a lot of what we think is in the Quran is actually human opinion. We are worshipping swhat some brothers who lived in Baghdad 500 years after the Prophet's death have written. We are worshipping human opinion. Largely.

It does not matter if I read the book or not, but the most crucial thing is that this fellow is setting a new precedence for Somali people to doubt about rules and the reality of the Islam legal system.
If he was right about his argument he could have it published in Somali territories (Mogadishu, Garowe, Hargeisa, Djibouti) or in Somali-Ethiopia not in foreign country where Islam is not recognised. And if he was certain about this ideology, which I doubt, he could have discussed prior to publishing with Somali religious scholars promoting and asking how to go about it and how to get reached to the target readers, the Somali speaking people.
The other crucial point is that this time Somalis are broken, weak and at crossroads in terms of stability and safety that comes under system of government to protect its citizens. Nowadays after Siyad Barre dictator ousted, Somali integrity and self-defence went in disarray and Chistian vultures come into play by taking advantage, ripping up and dividing the wounded she-camel and in this way there are a lot of Christians succeeded in converting Somalis with financial attraction and other security as well and in my belief he is one misguided of them and is a disease-carrier not an educated person to educate his people as he may claim. He is one amongst a group of Somalis we have to contend with to protect our Islamic way of life.
There are also a lot of Christian Somali radio stations around the world, especially in Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda, which broadcast around clock in Somali promoting democracy and freedom under the guise of Christianity. So, there are a lot of Somalis like this man who are waiting in the wings in their turn to let go of their regurgitated and polluted information about Islam Jurisprudence and all others of dirty stuff.

Allow yaa ogaada, the very individuals up against this guys opinion, don't pray at all unless it is Eid, don't fast at all yet claiming to be truly Muslim.
This guy has done nothing at all but to put the truth out there, so he can shed a light for those of you in the dark.
Al-shaydan claiming to be Muslim are honestly doing totally opposite what Islam stands for.

You can only debate with reasonable and polite people.
They are, on the other hand, right to fight those who are a threat to their source of living.
Deny me the right of critical thinking and ... I'm done with you, Mr Preacher!

I listened to both Sh. Ummal and the author.
Sh. Ummal came across as load, arrogant and abnoxious guy, while the author seemed intelligent, educated and very humble guy.
He has valid points that worth debating. I like the distintion he makes between religious thoughts and the religion of Islam itself. The author is critizing the religious thoughts of today's Salafis. And people are confusing between the two.
In fact, it is obvious from Umal's tone that he sees the book as threat to his power. That is why he is instructing his followers not to read the book. What is the point of learning if we have to rely on Ummal to read for us? That is both arrogance and misguidance.
We cannot let our wadaado to be between us and our religion like the people before us who made their religious scholars their lords. In Surat Towbah,Ayah 31, Allah says:

"They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah..."
    fiqicigaal1 @ 11/9/2014 1:22 PM EST
Why can’t prominent Muslim scholars invite the author in a scholarly debate and win against him?  What is stopping them to do so?

    mucallim @ 11/9/2014 12:08 PM EST
Don't worry, if there is a white guy behind him, he(the white guy) will become a muslim as was the case with Ayan Hirsi's movie. The media is striving to show a dark, violent, and noncivilize Islamic religion but it always serves in the interest of Islam and it leads to the conversion of thousands of westerners into Islam. Don't worry about this religion but worry about yourself and what is good for you. This religion will last as there

Do you want to become famous?
Do you want to get a lot of money?
Do you want to live in fear in this world?
Do you want to be in hell in the life hereafter?
Do you want to become civilized?
Do you want to be scholarly discussed, called upon for TV shows, have two faces, two hearts, two lives, and two of every thing?
Well, it is easy but at least you have to be able to hold the pen and scratch on a paper a few words here and there or easier be good and friendly with the  computer keyboard to even correct your grammatical and punctuation errors. All you have to do is to insult Islam and the Muslims!!!
Maybe I am wrong and it takes more than that; Huh, I don't think so. Nobody will even ask the credibility of your writings. Woooooooooooooooow; he/she is civilized and against evil (Islam). That is the slogan of the day. What can you do about it if you are a muslim person? Easty too!!! How???? Learn your religion and make sure that you don't have to wait to hear from others what is right and what is wrong. Muslims become weak only after they abandoned their religion.
Having read the comments, I feel sorry for some of us with inferiority complexity in them. You color does not matter but what matters is your deeds. I am glad to tell you that, even though Somalia is in trouble, we are still doing better than many in this world and many look up to us to learn from us whether it is religious knowledge, business, and so on . Don't let yourself down but lift it up.
I can't say anything about the Author and his book because I did not read the book and I don't know the author. All I can say to him is to avoid plotting fitnah among us if that is the case of this book. If he is stray may Allah turn him back to the right path.

 Quran Raac,

All I know is that all the 4 Imams of Islamic jurisprudence agree that an apostate should be killed. They base their judgments on the Qur'an and Hadith. Also, the Torah (old Testament)clearly say an apostate should be stoned to death. In fact, it says a family member should throw the first stone.
    FiqiJin @ 11/9/2014 10:55 AM EST
This man can get any asylum of his own choosing anywhere in the West. Because of what he has written, now he can say that his life in danger, and western countries will resettle him in a blink of an eye. I wonder if he had done it for that reason?
    FiqiJin @ 11/9/2014 10:43 AM EST
To me, too much secularism means discarding religion and God. in the West, where they totally abandoned religion and God, 2 men or 2 women are now allowed to get married ( fa nacuudu billah)-- that is secularism to you. We are Muslims, and we are proud of our religion--but in moderation. Religious extremism is just as bad as secularism (if not deadlier), which itself is a liberal, worldly extremism. In the old Somalia, we had a balance between religion and life or living in this world. But now, Somalis are infected with bida' Wahhabi extreme version of Islam. We should reclaim our old and authentic Islam.

Have you read the book yet? Or are you leeting others dictate to you what you should and should not read? Why are you giving the god-given freedom to think for yourself? Easily led are you? Gullible perhaps? If one of these Sheikhs you follwo told you to take your trousers down and sit on a thorny bush will you do so or will you question them? Why do I think you are one of nature's followers and not leaders?

HOL is censoring me again. All i want to say is this: Most Muslim countries always had secular political systems. And fun is part of the human condition that is why all religions promise their followers oodles of fun in the afterlife. Our Old Islam certainly allowed bags of fun from Dhafar nights to Ramadan Nights.
    nassiromar @ 11/9/2014 3:14 AM EST
This guy is trying to do what Salman Rushdie did in Satanic Verses about the Islam and our beloved prophet (scw), and he will fail in this attempt administered by white infidel behind scenes watching at the reaction of Somalis.

Our religion is our pride and faith we so dearly hold on to, so people have to respect it regarding its jurisprudence and rules to be followed by its followers.
It is for educated religious scholars that concurrently have to comment on it, in an official and educating way not by someone like Ayan Hersi or her ilks.

If you look at what Nuunow said, he said that Islam and democracy are not exclusive.

In the western world, secularism has defeated religion but that is impossible in Muslim countries so we must make sure it works for us.

Wiif, religion is about prohibition you know that, right? You can't say that I only accept it if it's fun.

I am much closer to Secular and Wiifgarow than I am to the tyranny of Wahabism but we must be careful not to confuse Islam with theocratic Muslim countries.

Let us first agree on one interpretation of the Holy Script.
Ummaddii ku wareertay wadaaddadaan falan oo mid walba soo hindisayo "Islam cusub" ,,lana diriraya oo kaafirinaya kii ula soo baxa dood cilmi iyo mid caqliba.
Wiif,

This book is hogwash which means nonsense and that islam does not tolerate violence or harm to people and that there is no radicals in islam and that terror groups like book haram alshabab, alqaida isis have nothing to do with islam and that quran preaches about peace not violence and there is no such thing that a religion that consists of violence.

The only isue I have with the writer is the use of ther terms 'Islam' to mean all Islam. The term in fact means a huge variety of concepts, ideas, strains and practises that often as different from each other as they are from other faith and socio-political systems. Our old Islam for exampel has almost no relation or semblance to what is now cvalled 'Islam' in the lands of the Somali including Ogaden and Djibouti. we have been taken over by something called Slafism which to em is a completely new religion. We lost our beautiful, moderate, loving, kind, fun Islam. Yes it even had fun in it. Like dancing and singing and music all night during Ramadan. Slafism is to me a new faith system. We have to accept or reject it on that basis.
    wiifgarow @ 11/8/2014 8:56 AM EST
 Nuunow

You challenge the claim that secularism is the only means to secuere liberty and human righst for all. What other systems do you suggest achieve the same goals?
    Wiil Isxaaq @ 11/8/2014 8:41 AM EST
Islam needs to be saved from Zoomalians and Arabs. The first lessons one is taught in Sharia school is justice and equity during the first week. I have not seen any such traits with Zoomalians or Arabs, they should leave Islam alone.
    lone wolf @ 11/8/2014 7:41 AM EST
i agree with him 100%. we need are secular states in somalia. i think sharia law is out of date and unfair to our sisters
    Nuunow @ 11/8/2014 2:00 AM EST
“What we need are secular states where there is democracy, justice and equality for all,” he said.

Securalism is the only means to ensure the fundamental rights of human rights? I don't think that is true at all.

We can be (and in fact are) an Islamic country using Sharia law as the base rules of law and yet can have have democray as well as justice and equality for all. In other words, Sharia law and democracy are not mutually exclusive, and in fact democracy is consistent with Islam, which ensures the fundamental rights of all mankinds prescribed in Quran (the holy book).

Just because the likes of Al-Haraam and some evil clerics are mis-interprating Islam and mis-quoting Quran, doesn't mean that we need to abandon our clear and historic Islamic framework based on Sharia law, and replace with Secularism or some other hogwash system.

We are Muslims, our faith is Islam and we're Islamic state governed by Sharia law. What is wrong with that?
