Here is Somali history 101 for you adamjama. The reason these men are "only" colonels is Siyaad Barre would not let them advance beyond that. Men who studied abroad in various officer's academies reamained colonels while geeljires without any formal education became Generals.. So these men you just listed did not belong to the right group, that is they were way too educated and they could so to say topple him. perhaps not the type of people you want to promote. So they were never allowed to become generals.

Can somebody please tell me what happened to the other ranks of our armed forces?
Every time I turned around all I here is colonel this and colonel that.where are the generals, majors, and captians.
Read below the names of the colonels:
Colonel Abdullahi Yussuf
""""""" Dahir Riyale
""""""" Cade Muuse
""""""" Dahir Aweys
""""""" Barre Hiiraale
""""""" Cabdi Qaybdiid
""""""" Shaati Gaduud and many others.
May be they all have a secret line of communication and we are just pre-judging them, remember the 21 officers of the revolutionary council that took over the country Oct.21,1969.

Somalia without Somaliland and Puntland = Peaceful Somalia.

Its about time that Rer Wuuqoyi, both Puntland & Somaliland go
there own way.

Leave Somalia for the Rer Konfuur who never split it apart.

Take your Abdullahi Yusuf, Buuba, Sifiir, Hasan Abshiir, etc with
you.

This is just how the author visualizes the end results and it should be reality check for the secessionist. Very well done!

I became suspicious of their intentions when they attacked Jowhar; but then frankly that was to some extent reasonable because the warlords went to Jowhar [their friend M. Dhere] and wanted to re-organize themselves and re-attack. But when they by-passed Shabelle Hose [the Indhacadde domain] and attacked Kismayo we lost confidence.

I am stunned by HOL  allowing publishing this empty words of this envy person. This article of Ali contributes only to further the distrust between the concerned community, He somewhat thinks this is the time to show artificial power on peaceful community. Evil actions on display!

 My congrats to brother Samatar.

I too turn against the UIC when they needlessly attacked Kismayo
without any consent nor consideration of  the local residents.

However, one has to admit that the UIC carried much better credibility
than the TFG although the contrary is subtly suggested by the author of
this article.

I am pessimistic about the prospect of TFG’s capability of restoring
peace and prosperity longed by the embattled Somali people nor the
intention. In fact I suspect they intend to bring prosperity to themselves
rather than to the common man.

But when that does happen, I am indeed optimistic that the technocrats
in the north, as the author puts it, won’t be able to corrupt the minds of
many women and children.

And, thanks for the good article brother Samatar.

For me I started turning against the UIC when I heard they burned the Somali flag in Kismaayo and replaced with another one. Some say it was a black flag that is similar to that of the former Taliban gangs of Afganistan.

Many media reports have said that people in Hargeisa burned the Somali flag during their demonstrations. A lot people were sickened by this and that is the reason there were some counter demonstrations inside Somaliland the next day in which Somalis who support the unity of our people came out to the streats w/out fearing the seccessionst group. I consider these brave people heroes of our people and should solute them.
