Dhusamareb (HOL) — Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, known as Qoor Qoor, declared Friday that Al-Shabaab is in a weakened state and urged Somalis to unite in a final push to eradicate the militant group.

Speaking in Dhusamareb, the regional capital, Qoor Qoor said Al-Shabaab’s operational capacity has been significantly diminished and warned against complacency. He called on security forces, local authorities, and communities to work together to eliminate the remaining elements of the group.

“There is no new strength in Al-Shabaab,” he said. “They are running out of options, and this is the moment to end them for good.”

The Somali government and its allies have intensified military operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern Somalia, reclaiming key territories in recent months. While the group continues to carry out deadly attacks, officials say its ability to hold ground has been severely diminished.

Qoor Qoor also appealed for humanitarian support, urging communities to help each other during the holy month of Ramadan, as parts of Galmudug are experiencing drought.

Additionally, he warned against internal clan conflicts, stating that such divisions provide Al-Shabaab an opportunity to regroup. “We cannot afford to fight among ourselves while the enemy lurks,” he said.

Somali security forces, backed by African Union troops and international partners, continue counterterrorism operations across the country. While progress has been made, concerns remain about Al-Shabaab’s ability to adapt and launch asymmetric attacks.
