Ethiopia commends Somaliland for peaceful presidential election

    Hargeisa (HOL) — Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has praised Somaliland for conducting a peaceful and democratic presidential election, saying the process is a testament to the region's political maturity.

    In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry commended Somaliland's National Electoral Commission (NEC) for ensuring a free and fair vote.

    "The process reflects the maturity of Somaliland's governance and democratic system," Ethiopia's statement read, congratulating the people of Somaliland for their commitment to democratic principles.

    More than 1 million registered voters cast their ballots at approximately 2,000 polling stations across Somaliland on Wednesday. Results are expected by November 21, said NEC Chairman Muse Hassan Yusuf.

    "This is a testament to the strength of Somaliland's democratic institutions," Yusuf said, adding that minor technical issues reported during voting were promptly resolved.

    The NEC has pledged transparency and accuracy in determining the winner.
