Baidoa (HOL) - Somali police forces in the Southwest state have cleared ten illegal checkpoints in the Bardale district of the Bay region, where militias had been extorting money from vehicles and residents.
The commander of the Bay region police station in Bardale district, Amin Madruur, emphasized that they will not tolerate the establishment of checkpoints and will take decisive action against those responsible.
The Minister of Security of the Southwest administration, Hassan Abdukadir Mohamed, who recently visited Bardale district to address the issue of illegal checkpoints, described the removal of the checkpoints as a successful operation.
"Some of the militias manning the checkpoints have surrendered, while others have fled the district. I urge them to surrender. No more roadblocks will be tolerated," Minister Hassan Abduqadir stated.
In recent days, security forces have been conducting operations to dismantle illegal checkpoints in Bardale district following complaints filed by residents and drivers of public vehicles.
