Kenya and Somalia sign key agreements in Nairobi to boost bilateral relations

Nairobi (HOL) — Kenya and Somalia signed a series of pivotal agreements on Monday, covering areas such as political consultations, education, defence, foreign affairs, security, economy, trade, and social services. The agreements, signed in Nairobi during the third session of the Somalia-Kenya Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), mark a significant step in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Somalia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moalin Fiqi, emphasized the new era of cooperation. They cited the agreements as evidence of a renewed commitment to promoting stability, prosperity, and social development, reflecting common goals for progress and mutual benefit.

Musalia Mudavadi stated that the agreements aim to solidify cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries' populations. "The agreement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of our technical officials who addressed issues amicably," Mudavadi noted, underscoring the special relationship between the neighbouring countries, enhanced by a long-standing and robust partnership.

Ahmed Moalin Fiqi outlined additional efforts by both nations to enhance cooperation in security and capacity building in health care, which includes enhancing the skills of health professionals and training police officers. Fiqi said that these bilateral relations are driven by goodwill and the determination to work together toward broadening and deepening the scope of their relations.
