Hargeisa (HOL) — Faisal Ali Warabe, chairman of the opposition party UCID, has expressed support for the arrest of Osman Omar Dool from the Waddani party.
Speaking about the riots at Igal Airport in Hargeisa yesterday, Warabe criticized the Waddani party for inciting unrest along tribal lines.
"Our children are being exploited. While funds are allocated for tribal vaccinations, some politicians, claiming to represent the people and donning traditional scarves, are manipulating the situation," Warabe said.
He supported the arrest of Osman Omar Dool, asserting that Dool is a highly abusive individual and that his detention is for his own safety.
"For his protection, we had to intervene. If we hadn't, he might have been killed. Supporters of the Nationalist Party cannot close the airport," Warabe stated.
Warabe also accused Waddani of timing the arrival of their politician to coincide with the departure of an American delegation that had come to Somaliland to investigate the situation.
Dozens of discontented youths protested in Hargeisa on Friday over the arrest of Dool, a vocal critic of the Somaliland government on social media. The Grand Sultan of the Isaaq clan, Sultan Daoud Sultan Mohamed Sultan Abdiqadir, addressed the youths, demanding Dool's release within 24 hours and warning of consequences if his demand is unmet. Abdikadir reassured the protesting youths that Dool was unharmed and emphasized accountability for those responsible for his arrest.
