Puntland leader urges President Mohamud to stop graves exhumation in Mogadishu

    Garowe (HOL) - Puntland regional state leader Said Abdullahi Deni has strongly condemned the federal government's immediate decision to repurpose the School Policia cemetery in Mogadishu into a training center for the Somali Navy.

    Addressing the parliament in Garowe on Saturday, Deni stated that the Somali government does not need additional land and accused it of selling public lands out of necessity.

    "We know that government centers and camps are said to be 'necessary' and they are being sold; now they are saying that graves that are not necessary and should be exhumed. These issues need to be explained," said Deni.

    He called on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to reconsider the decision and take care of the community, especially during Arafa's time.

    The Somali government has given families ten days to relocate the bodies from the School Policia cemetery. During an interview last week, Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor emphasized the land's importance to national interests and urged compliance.
