Thursday November 30, 2023

Mogadishu (HOL) - The Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, inspected Somalia's largest open-air market, Bakara, in Mogadishu on Thursday in response to recent threats from al Shabab militants targeting business centers equipped with security cameras.

According to the Somali National Television, the director, alongside other security commanders, assessed the implementation of NISA's directive requiring all businesses to install CCTV cameras to enhance the protection of people and their properties.

Business owners at Bakara Market shared the progress made in enhancing security over recent months with security commanders. They emphasized positive changes and pledged their support to the government in ensuring the country's overall security.

The Director of the National Intelligence Agency commended the traders for adhering to NISA's directive on installing surveillance cameras. He assured them that efforts to eliminate al-Shabab militants in the country, particularly in Mogadishu, would intensify in the coming months.

Just a day before the inspection, al-Shabab militants attacked an auto parts business in the Howlwadaag district's Black Sea neighbourhood.

Authorities believe this explosion directly responds to NISA's directive for commercial centers on Black Sea Road to install surveillance cameras.

A spokesperson for Al-Shabaab has stated their intent to target businesses adhering to the government's security measures. The installed cameras are intended to provide critical surveillance in key areas, aiding the government in gathering vital information and evidence.
