Beledweyne (HOL) - Heavy fighting was reported in Hiiraan's Jalalaqsi district between government forces backed by local clan militia forces and al-Shabab militants on Wednesday.
According to reports, the fight in Inji village began after the joint forces attacked militants attempting to cross the Shabelle River to the other side.
The government officials did not comment on the attack's casualties.
The joint forces launched a multi-directional attack on the militants in the southern part of Qeycad village in the Mudug region on Wednesday, where several militants were killed during the operation.
SNA Infantry Commander General Mohamed Tahliil Bihi said that 117 Al Shabaab fighters were killed in the most recent operations in central Somalia's Mudug region.
General Bihi told Somali state media that the insurgents were killed during an intense eight-hour gun battle near Doonyaale, a critical stronghold for Al-Shabaab, on Friday.
