Former electoral delegate shot dead in Beledweyne

Mogadishu (HOL) - Armed men shot and killed an electoral delegate on Saturday night in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiran region.
Abdirashid Mohamed Gedi, a delegate who was a delegate who participated in the election for HOP058, was attacked in the Koshin neighbourhood. His killers fled after the shooting and were not apprehended.
Somali police forces arrived at the murder scene after the killing and collected Gedi's body, although no one was arrested.
The commander of the Baeedweyne police station, Abdi-Bashar Hussein, said that they had just begun conducting investigations into the assassination but said that the murder was likely linked to the militant insurgency group Al-Shabaab.
Hussein defended the Beledweyne police force's record and insisted that the city was still safe.
"I've been a commander in Beledweyne for four months, and in that time, there have been four murders - two of which we have solved. We are doing our job, and the police patrol the city every night."
In Baledweyne, the capital of the Hiran region, There are often planned killings targeting prominent individuals in Beledweyne and the surrounding areas. Several of the high-profile assassinations are attributed to Al-Shabaab.
Gedi is the second electoral delegate to be shot dead following the parliamentary elections. Last month, gunmen in Mogadishu shot and killed Yusuf Dahir Kheyre, a well-known peace activist.
No arrests have been made in Kheyre's murder.
