MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia's government has replaced its ambassador to Rome, in the latest in several diplomatic changes by the horn of Africa nation which is trying to build strong ties with the international community, sources said Sunday.
According to diplomatic sources, Somalia's foreign minister Abdisalam Hadiye has replaced Gen. Muse Hassan, the Rome ambassador, appointing Abdirahman Sheikh Isse, a senior government adviser as his successor.
Mr. Hassan’s replacement is seen as a new move aimed at bringing fresh faces into the diplomatic circle.
Somalia's current government has been credited with improvements in the Foreign Service unlike its internal affairs bogged down by recurrent political crisis, signing major deals with partners and managing to take Somalia's name across international forums.
Somalia which is recovering from decades of war has been trying to make a diplomatic come back across the world in recent years and restored normal diplomatic relations with numerous countries.
Many countries including the US severed diplomatic relations with Somalia after a civil war broke out in 1991 that saw warlords fighting for the control of the country.
The new diplomatic exercise comes following the ouster of Islamist insurgents from the capital and surrounding regions, a development which allowed partner countries to start a diplomatic presence in the seaside capital, Mogadishu.
