MOGADISHU (HOL)-AMISOM army officials were called on to carry-out precautionary measures to protect vulnerable persons such as women, children, the disabled persons and the elderly especially during the AMISOM military operations.

Acting commander of AMISOM, Col. Shadrac Otieno highlighted the importance of protecting human rights during AMISOM operations.

He urged AMISOM troops to observe responsibility, accountability and transparency in the interest of the protection of the civilians during clashes.

He asserted that any soldier that violates the rights of civilians be brought to book and be punished accordingly.

According to Col. Shadrac, punitive measures against any AMISOM violators against the people of Somalia may include resignation and imprisonment.

The Col. was speaking during the training of 15 AMISOM officials drawn from the contingents of Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia and Uganda. The training which was organized last week was presided over by the head of trainings of AMISOM, Col. Ali Nouhou.

This training was deemed to be of high importance as it came at a time of need as rights organizations have at many times accused AMISOM of violations against Somali civilians including killings, rape among other abuses.
