Opening games of the 2016 Somali Week Soccer Tournament

TORONTO (HOL) – The opening ceremony of the ‘Somali Week’ soccer tournament began on Sunday afternoon in Toronto’s Centennial Park.  12 teams from Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa, Hamilton, Minneapolis, Columbus, London (UK), and Birmingham (UK) are competing to be crowned the 2016 Somali Week Tournament Champions.

In the first schedule game of the tournament was between Toronto`s Benadir FC and Minnesota Tigers. The attack heavy game resulted in a high scoring 2-2 final.

The second game of the afternoon saw a hard fought battle between Kitchener Youth and Minnesota Twins. After a scoreless first half, Minnesota was able to score a late goal to edge past Kitchener with a fulltime score of 1-0.

The final game of the evening was between last year`s champions Ohio TMT and hometown favourite Hilac FC. A high intensity match between the two resulted in a 0-0 scorecard despite both sides having many scoring opportunities.

Tomorrow`s games begin at 4pm and will be held at Centennial Park as well. Toronto`s Seif FC will faceoff with Hamilton Athletics. Jubba FC will play Benadir FC in the second game of the match and the lone team from Ottawa will play Minnesota Twins
