MOGADISHU (HOL) - At least eight people were killed and dozens others  were injured in clashes between Puntland and its neighboring Galmudug administration, officials said Saturday.

The clashes, the second in weeks have led to the displacement of thousands of residents as the two sides exchanged heavy weaponry and anti aircraft missiles in the town.

Hospital sources said that dozens of people were also wounded in the latest clashes which come one day after Somalia's prime minister visited Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland and Adado, the headquarters of Galmudug state following last week's clashes  in Galkayo that left at least 10 people dead this week.

During his visit, Mr. Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke called for the two sides to cease the hostilities,  development that aid agencies warned could lead to serious humanitarian crisis.

Galmudug administration blamed Puntland troops of attacking their forces positions which triggered the hour-long fighting Saturday.

Galkayo town is divided into two zones, where the northern portion forms part of Puntland state, while its southern part is governed by the Galmudug administration.
