A bomb blast outside a popular restaurant in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday evening has been strongly condemned by the top UN envoy in the country.
According to reports, at least five people were killed and several others wounded in the car bomb attack.
Nicholas Kay, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Somalia described the blast as a "cowardly terrorist attack".
He said he was appalled by the complete disregard for the lives of ordinary Somalis, including children and passers-by.
Such crimes, he added, violate the most basic principles of humanity and the perpetrators need to be brought to justice swiftly.
Ambassador Kay said the United Nations remains determined in its support for the Somali people as they work to realise their hope for a peaceful and stable future.
