Security has been beefed up in Mandera County following the shootings by suspected to be Al Shabaab militants that left 28 people dead as they were travelling in a bus to Nairobi.

The military started a major security operation to hunt down Al-Shabaab suspects who killed the Kenyans who were heading to Nairobi from Mandera.

Mandera County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo confirmed that a base belonging to the Somali terror group was bombed on Saturday by Kenya Defense Force officers.

Police have assured buses plying the Mandera-Rhamu-Elwak route of security.

Al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the dawn attack in a statement on Saturday saying that it was revenge for the raids that were carried out by Kenyan security forces on mosques in Mombasa.
