Mogadishu (HOL) - At least four civilians have been killed while more than ten others injured as mortar shells rained on the Wadajir district southwest of the capital Mogadishu last night.
Residents said that the shells started at about 11:00 PM at night on Thursday and continued for nearly a quarter of an hour.
“The mortar shells raided on residential area killing at least four people and wounded more than ten others” a resident who demanded anonymity told local media on Friday morning.
But district officials who were reached for comment by the media said that the mortar fires seemed to be targeting the former Gahayr University building which houses hundreds of Burundian contingent of the African Union Peace keeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
Meanwhile, AMISOM was not immediately available for comment and it was not even known if there were any casualties on the AU peacekeepers.
No group has yet claimed for the responsibility of last night’s mortar shells on the south-western parts of the city, but the Al-Shabab militants are mostly known for carrying out such mortar attacks.
