ONLF accused of fighting inside Somalia

A Somali government regional official for the first time said that fighters belonging to the Ethiopian rebel group (ONLF) are fighting alongside Al Shabab militants in the country.

Mohamed Abdi Tall, the governor of Bakool region near the border with Ethiopia said evidences have been gathered that the Ethiopian rebels and Al Shabab militants recently launched joint attacks on areas along the border.

In an interview with VOA Somali service, the regional governor said that in recent months, Al Shabab and OLNF have become allies in their struggle. Since both of them are against Ethiopia and because of that partnership ONLF fighters entered Somalia to fight alongside with Al Shabab.

The accusation comes several days after nearly 60 people were killed in two different AL Shabab attacks on the border village of Caato.
However, the ONLF rebels and AL Shabab were not immediately available for comment.
