New Somali Police chief resumes office

Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - Somalia’s newly appointed police chief General Mohamed Hassan Osman has from today taken over responsibility from his predecessor General Abdihakim Dahir Said, according to a press statement from the Somali Police media department.

The statement of which HOL obtained a copy, stated that the takeover ceremony attracted high profile Somali government and AU officials including the Internal Security Deputy Minister, lawmakers, police officials and as well as AMISOM’s Deputy Police Commissioner.

The New Somali police chief asked security services and past and present police officials to show co-operation in order to help him successfully accomplish the giant duties he has inherited.

Former Police Chief General Abdihakim Dahri Said who addressed the ceremony before handing over responsibility, thanked his colleagues and officials for developing good co-operation with him during his era as police commissioner.

“Like my colleagues helped me, I would like to promise that I will closely work with my successor” General Said expressed emotionally.

The Internal Security Deputy Minister Ibrahim Isaq yarow praised the former police chief for accomplishing hard tasks while in office. He also urged the new chief to carry the baton and the heavy burden and responsibility from there.

Somalia fired its police and intelligence chiefs in the aftermath of the recent Al Shabaab attack on the presidential palace which was the second of its kind on Somali president’s office since 21st of February this year.
