The president of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheik Mahmoud and the outgoing foreign minister Fowzia Yusuf Hajji met with the new Japanese ambassador to Somalia at the presidential palace in Mogadishu on Sunday where President Mahmoud received credential letters from Mr. Tatsushi Terade, as Japanese ambassador to Somalia.

This will be the first time that Japan sends its diplomatic mission to Somalia  since the horn of African nation fell into anarchy nearly 24 years ago.

During his visit to the presidential palace, the Japanese diplomat thanked Somali government for the huge welcome extended to him adding he was very happy that president Hassan Sheik Mahmoud received credential letters from him at a high profile reception in the state house.

“Japan is a close friend of Somalia and the government of Japan was committed to implementing the pledges it previously made for Somalia during the special conference on Somalia held in the city of Yokohame in May last year and this meeting explained to the international community that Japan is interested in playing a key role in the reconstruction and boosting the economy of Somalia” President Hassan Sheik Mahmoud told the new Japanese ambassador to Somalia.
