Kismayo security chief killed by gunmen in an ambush

AMISOM, the Somali National Army (SNA), and Ras Kamboni formally ousted al-Shabaab from its lucrative hub in Kismayo in early October 2012, but al-Shabaab has maintained a heavy informal influence in the port city.

Isse Kamboni, head of security for the Jubba interim Administration, has been gunned down on Monday night in the port city of Kismayo.

According to media reports, Isse Kamboni and three of his body gurads were inside a car when one of his body guards, a close relative to the Isse and a former al-Shabab member, opened fire and killed the senior officer and two other body guards before escaping.

Further reports are suggesting that the perpetrator defected from al-Shabab a few months ago and recently joined the Jubaland forces.

The late Isse Kabooni was a highly respected security official. He was appointed to the post in October last year and was very close to the leader of the interim Jubba administration, Ahmed Madoobe. The Jubaland interim Administration and the African Union peacekeeping mission in the city were not yet available for comment. Al-Shabab has not yet officially commented on the killing of Isse Kamboni.
