Mogadish (HOL) - As the UAE is stepping up its assistance to Somalia, the federal government of Somalia on Saturday farewelled the first contingents of its armed forces who will be flown to the United Arab Emirates for high level military training course.
Somali government didn’t mention the number of the troops to be trained in the UAE, but the commander of the presidential guard Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali popularly known as Af Addey said that members from his presidential guard unit will involve in the training.
“The UAE is committed to helping Somalia in different sectors including the training of Somalia’s armed forces—we are now sending the first dispatch and they will undergo high level military training sessions during their stay in the United Arab Emirates” colonel Af Addey told the fare-well ceremony on Saturday.
Last week the UAE launched a huge development project in some 10 districts in the country, as part of its continued humanitarian assistance to Somalia. The United Arab Emirates had played a key role in the international anti famine campaign in Somalia in 2011.
