At least 14 people have been hospitalised after an outbreak of watery diarrhoea in the town of Abudwaq which is located in the mid-west l Somali region of Galgadud, officials confirmed to local media on Saturday.

Secretary for Public Services of the town Khaliif Abdi Samad said that the 14 people including women and children were rushed to a privately-owned hospital in the town for the past 48 hours due to the diarrhoea outbreak demanding more help from the federal government to contain the disease.

“There are no governmental public health services here and that is why the ailing people were taken to privately-owned clinic—the disease broke out at one of the IDP camps here and we are trying to contain to prevent it from spreading into other camps here” Khaliif Abdi Samad said adding that his administration wasn’t capable of containing the diarrhoea without the needed assistance.

He called on the federal government, the business community in the region and international aid organizations to urgently react to the call for more assistance to help them contain the disease.

He said that the hospitalised 14 people were in a very critical condition adding that an urgent life-saving medical assistance was needed.

Abud Waq hosts thousands of displaced Somali families, but town has been lacking a greater attention from the federal government and as well as international aid organizations.
