The first ever commercial flight was at the weekend launched in Dadaab

Skyward International Aviation is the first commercial flight to venture in the expansive Dadaab sub-county which hosts the refugee camps.

The flight targets the many humanitarian aid workers, members of the business community, locals and the refugees.

Addressing journalists at Dadaab airstrip on Saturday, businessman Ahmed Abdi Yare said that though they acknowledge that security is a major concern and challenge in the area, they anticipate to make maximum profit.

Several attacks have been staged in Dadaab and other major towns in Kenya since Kenya troops crossed the border to war ravaged Somalia.

Last week a twin blast that was hurled by unknown assailants at the Dadaab airstrip, ripped off its gate.
“We expect to improve our businesses with the launch of this airline, this idea is timely bearing in mind the hours wasted on the road due to the poor roads and the re-introduction of safety belts,” said Yare.

The flight will be operating from Nairobi to Garissa then to Dadaab it will then take off from Dadaab to Nairobi.

Area MP Mohamed Dahiye said it will serve huge population in the area including refugees, people from Diaspora, government officials and UN agencies.

He said the flight will greatly enhance economy in the area urging people from Diaspora to invest in the area adding that the commercial flight will now reduce time taken to travel from Nairobi.

“Because of the changes in transport sector, many hours are lost on the roads this is a noble idea and we will make use of it,” he said.
