II. Organizational Context and Scope

Under the general supervision of the Regional Resource Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior ITC Assistant in Nairobi, the incumbent will be responsible for providing daily technical support and troubleshooting of all computer systems with consideration to the needs and requirements of the mission. He/she specifically will be responsible for:

III. Responsibilities and Accountabilities

 

  • I Maintain a Hotline for ITC user problems and provide onsite user support.
  • Assist in the installation, operation and administration of network components, which will include Cisco Routers, Cisco ASA Firewalls and Switches among others.
  • Ensure that all helpdesk queries are answered appropriately via email, telephone call or in person.
  • Monitor systems and networks (LAN, WAN) and perform essential maintenance such as: server controls, data integrity tasks (back-up, disk space etc). Install and update hardware and software.
  • Install, configure and upgrade servers, desktops and laptop computers and install software (Windows 7/2008, MS Office and in house produced software)
  • Assist in installation, operation and administration of the security for the various systems and network components, including protection against viruses, access to email and Internet, relational database management systems and implementation of ITC disaster recovery services.
  • Assist in coordinating and monitoring the installation and maintenance of telephone and radio communications in the mission
  • Develop and provide training to all ITC users to ensure productive use of existing and new systems developed.
  • Testing and suggesting new software packages, which can improve the overall efficiency of the mission
  • VSAT support: Liaise with ITC-Manila and the satellite provider to ensure constant satellite communications, including troubleshooting hardware failures & resolving service interruptions.
  • Maintain regular updates to the technical documentation for the voice and data networks.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment servicing.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

V. Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information technology or computer science electrical engineering or a combination of relevant education and professional experience
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in LAN/WAN networking environment
  • Extensive knowledge of: Windows Server 2008 software in a multi-site environment, Microsoft Exchange server 2010, TCP/IP Protocol, Cisco Router Configuration, Windows 7 administration.
  • Experience with HP/Compaq, IBM, Cisco and Siemon equipment
  • Experience in Web site development and administration is an extra advantage
  • Ability to design and configure networks
  • Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MSCE) certification and Cisco Certifications preferred.
  • Experience in working in an international organization
