“This therefore gives Kenyans a chance to participate in the polls,” Kimemia said in a statement.
The Public Holidays Act declares in Section 2 (4) that: “The day in any year during which a general election is held following the dissolution of Parliament shall be a public holiday.”
With five days to Kenya’s general elections, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has geared up its preparation and assured Kenyans of credible polls.

At least 90,000 Kenyan security officers will watch over the polls as a deterrent against violence similar to the mayhem that rocked the country in 2008 after presidential election.
Already ballot papers for the six-tier election have been delivered and are under 24-hour guard at an undisclosed location.
IEBC has also hired 240,000 polling clerks to cover 33,400 polling centres and poll books which will be in use to counter-check the voter details with the Electronic Voter Identification Device (EVID).
The commission had assured that security features are in place to deter manipulation of the system.
