Speaking while on a courtesy call to Deputy
President William Ruto at his Karen residence, Deputy Prime Minister and
Minister for foreign affairs Didier Reyders offered to assist Kenya in
ensuring that Somali refugees return to their country in an orderly
manner. He said his country will hold a meeting on Somalia in Brussels
to chart a way forward after a Tripartite Conference for August 28 to 29
to discuss voluntary repatriation of Somali refugees.
Deputy President Ruto said that Kenya was committed to the peace process in Somalia.
"As a country, we need friends to assist us to enable the refugees go
back home. We realize that keeping 600,000 refugees in camps is a big
challenge", said the deputy President.
The meeting also discussed joint effort to bring peace in the Great
Lakes region especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Southern
Sudan.
