The 11th East and Central Africa Quran Memorisation competition held between 26th - 28th July at Makadara grounds was won by 15 year old Abdulhalim Mohammed Usman from Al Bushra, Nairobi.

He topped 27 boys from all over Kenya and represented Kenya in the East and Central African competition and he also emerged a winner defeating participants from Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia Pemba, Zanzibar and Ethiopia.

Abdulhalim was awarded a two Hajj package, one for his Father and the other for himself, plus cash prize of 30,000 plus USD 350/= among other fabulous gifts.

Abdulhalim was delighted the crowd with his young melodious voice and never made any Hifdh mistake during the two competitions.

The fifteen year old will now represent Kenya in Africa Hifdh Competition to be held in Dar es salam, Diamond Jubilee Hall between 31 July and 2nd August 2013.

He will be accompanied to Dar es salam with Muslim Mercy Youth Official Said Abeid Said and his teacher Sheikh Adam.

The Guest of Honour Dr. Islam Mohamed Islam congratulated the participants who won in different categories.

Among the dignitaries presents during the award ceremony were Governor Hassan Joho and Mvita MP Hon Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.


Other winners in the International Competition were: Position 5 - Adam Hussein of 18 years from Majlis Maarif won KSH 20,000/-

Position 4 - Kombo Bai Makame of 18 years from Zanzibar won KSH 30,000/-

Position 3 - Omar Abdallah Salim of 18 years from Pemba won KSH 40,000/-

Position 2 - Hamza Muhidin Rage of 14 years from Al-Banin won KSH 50,000/-
