The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today:
"The High Representative is deeply saddened to hear of the reported shooting and death of Somalia's Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Mr Ahmed Malim Sheikh Nur. She conveys her condolences to his family.
The High Representative utterly condemns such attacks, which in no way should diminish the remarkable progress in the country.
The EU is fully committed to working closely with the government and the wider international community in supporting the development of security and the rule of law in Somalia."
