Officials from the Puntland Electoral Commission toured the region at the weekend to raise awareness about the government's democratisation agenda, Somalia's Garowe Online reported Saturday (September 22nd).
Electoral commission chairman Mohamed Hassan Barre told the BBC that the commission intends to engage government officials, community leaders and civil society organisations to raise awareness.
Barre rejected rumours that there have been protests against Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole's intention to increase his term by one year. Some Somali websites posted pictures of the protests, including Horseed Media, which showed crowds burning tyres and chanting "No Five Years", but no official source has confirmed their occurrence.
