Abdirahman Mohamed Abdulle, commissioner of the Isra neighborhood in Galkayo was shot and killed Sunday by unknown Gunmen.
The gunmen managed to escape after the attack and are being pursued by Puntland security forces. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
A spokesperson for the Puntland Administration spoke with media earlier saying that the area has been cordoned off and there is an ongoing investigation into the murder. He promises that the assailants will be brought to justice.
In the days before his death, Mr. Abdulle ordered a security crackdown in his area as he had officers conducting sweeps and on rigorous patrols.
The city of Galkayo has a bloody history of assassinations of its public officials due to the lack of security. Abdirahman Abdulle was killed while in office as was his predecessor Ahmed Elmi Osman (Gataax) who was also gunned down. This poses new security problems for the administration of Puntland.
