The government of Japan has supported Somalia’s security sector during the transition period. The President highlighted this new move as an example of improving confidence in the engagement between Somalia and Japan.
President Hassan Sheikh stated “the significance of a direct engagement with our government and not through other organizations will be the foundation for a strong relationship between Somalia and Japan.” During the transition period Somali government was dealt with through other organizations.
The President of Somalia encourages the international community to demonstrate their support for the Somali government and to follow Japan’s committed decision to directly engage with the Somali government.
