Somali Doctors urged to cooperate

A meeting held in Nomad Palace Hotel in Nairobi by the Somali Doctors in Kenya called for unity among Somali professionals in Kenya and overseas.

In an exclusive interview with Hiiraan Online Dr. Mumina Hassan Abdukadir said that this monthly meeting is attended by the members of the Union of Somali Doctors in Kenya ( SOMAKEN). Mumina who is one of the founders of SOMAKEN said that their vision is to cooperate as a team to enhance better engagement and coordination on a range of issues.

The meeting which was attended by more than 40 doctors addressed on the medical challenges facing the Somali Community in Kenya.

Dr. Abdukadir Hussein Warsame who facilitated the meeting also told Hiiraan Online that since SOMKEN was formed the communication of the Somali Doctors in Kenya has dramatically improved in terms of information sharing and service referral. He stated that the benefits for the community of such organization are many “we offered free treatment programs for the Somali community since we established this organization; we are serving our community because we know we can change their lives”. He said.

“We are offering this kind of service because we deeply understand that our people are suffering and they are not receiving any medical care from any organization”. He added.

In another presentation made by Dr. Mohamed Hussein Bodaye , he emphasized the importance of SOMKEN and encouraged other Somali Doctors all over the world to follow their lead.
