Mohamed Omar, a Somali MP, on Saturday welcomed the Somalia air-strikes saying the raid inflicted al Shabaab heavy losses.

Mr. Omar accused the militant group of badgering and harrassing civilians whenever they face such repercussions by punishing them for allegedly espionage related activities.

The Somali lawmaker said such aerial attacks against the al Qaeda inspired group is the only move that could stop foreign extremists from getting into war-torn horn African country.

However, no government has claimed the responsibility for the attack in southern Somalia so far.

The United States government in the past conducted such military operations in Somalia.

In 2008, Adem Hashi Ayro was killed in US airstrike in central Somalia town of Dhusamerb.

In2009, a United States helicopter attacked and killed Saleh Ali Nabhan in southern Somalia. Nebhan was believed to be al-Qaeda’s top operative in East Africa
