Victoria,Seychelles (APA) - The Seychelles government has announced that it is negotiating with Somali pirates to secure the release of 10 Seychellois sailors held hostage by the pirates.
Police commissioner Ernest Quatre said in a statement on Friday that the priority of the government is the safe return of the sailors.
He said apart direct negotiations with the pirates, the authorities have contacted high officials in the Somali interim government in Mogadishu through the Seychelles diplomatic representation in Paris and Brussels.
He said investigations are continuing regarding the 23 suspected pirates held in police custody, adding that they will stay in police custody until charges are brought against them.
