Seven Somali pirates sent to prison on remand

It comes as another group of seven pirates has been intercepted by the Spanish navy

Spain has arrested another seven Somali pirates and forced them to abort another attack on shipping in the area. Two pistols and a grenade launcher were found in the operation.

A Spanish helicopter detected the pirates when they were trying to board a Maltese ship, the ‘Anny Petrakis’, and followed them as they fled, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

Meanwhile the National Court judge, Fernando Andreu, in Madrid has ordered prison on remand for the seven Somalis who were arrested earlier this week, considering that Spain is competent to hear the case.
