Spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry Menha Bakhoum said on Tuesday 23/8/2011 that the Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, prepares to leave for Addis Ababa on Thursday 25/8/2011 to attend an emergency meeting organized by the African Union to collect aid for the African region.
The drought in the Horn of Africa region, particularly in Somalia, affected some 12 million people.
Bakhoum said Egypt is keen on alleviating the suffering of people in famine-hit Somalia.
Bakhoum said it is not the first time that Egypt takes part in emergency meetings as such citing Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) gatherings to solve the crisis in Somalia.
She made it clear that Amr will review Egypt's vision as to how to solve the Somali problem in the AU meeting on Thursday.
